Prismatic Geoscope and "other" basic lands...
Asked by Mortlocke 8 years ago
For my own sanity I need to ask - do Alpha/Beta/Revised Dual Lands and Shock Lands count toward the X value for number of basic land types for Prismatic Geoscope?
My Gawd...so much broken...it's a Gilded Lotus on crack.

Well, the most it can add is five mana. Although Alpha/Beta/Revised Duals have a type such as Swamp Forest, it isn't a different thing from being both a Swamp and a Forest.

It's pretty bad. Decks that can afford shocks have better rocks.

@Kala: types, subtypes, and supertypes are all single words. "Swamp Forest" is two subtypes, not one.
Also, duals are not basic lands.

TheDevicer - I can see the obvious drawbacks mana for a tapped artifact, but from the next turn on I can just tap - add . The deck I'm running that I intend to use this in has fetchlands, original dual lands, and shocks so me getting all five basic land types is not an issue. I think the card is pretty amazing for five color decks running duals and shocks.

I'm not sure this is the proper place to have this conversation, but tapping down 5 mana during your main phase without influencing the board or your position simply isn't feasible in competitive circles. You need something like consecrated sphinx or prophet to make it worth it.

@ Epochalyptik, my intention was to explain that, I worded it wrong.

Drop an Amulet of Vigor first. OR Seedborn Muse, or any number of untappers, or drop it through cheating it in at the end of your opponent's turn. There are A LOT of competitive ways to get it out for cheap or free and use it during your turn.
Use it with a Skill Borrower to pay for it with Future Sight, or any million other options.

Sure, sure. Lots of different ways to bypass the inherent problems related to playing the card. However, that doesn't change the fact that most competitive decks would rather toss out a Mox Diamond or equivalent rock and be done with it. Even for color fixing, the talismans work wonders if you're playing on budget.
