Phyrexian Unlife and Delaying Shield

Asked by thesudosudo 13 years ago

If I have both Phyrexian UnlifeMTG Card: Phyrexian Unlife and Delaying ShieldMTG Card: Delaying Shield out at the same time will I ever die from taking any kind of damage ever?

Also if I get ExsanguinateMTG Card: Exsanguinated will that go over the combo previously mentioned?

I think I have it down correctly but would just like to make sure.

I know there is a difference between damage and loss of life, and since Phyrexian UnlifeMTG Card: Phyrexian Unlife says damage is done as if its source has infect, only sources that deal damage like creatures or burn spells that say damage would trigger delaying shield. ExsanguinateMTG Card: Exsanguinate and Delaying ShieldMTG Card: Delaying Shield would not have any effect since they results in "Loss of life" and not damage. So I believe this combo would work.

I should clarify that damage would go to Delaying ShieldMTG Card: Delaying Shield as delay counters, then when it says you lose life equal to the number of counters on it at your upkeep, no more counters would go on it because its not dealing damage to you. It would just disappear as opposed to becoming an endless cycle.

Delaying ShieldMTG Card: Delaying Shield replaces damage completely, and Phyrexian UnlifeMTG Card: Phyrexian Unlife won't turn the eventual life loss into poison because it isn't damage. You're good on that one.

Likewise, Unlife doesn't turn ExsanguinateMTG Card: Exsanguinate into poison either, because again, it isn't damage.

And damage from a source that actually has Infect is still damage as well so the combo still works because Delaying ShieldMTG Card: Delaying Shield will re-direct that damage. So I don't think there is any way to lose as long as those 2 cards are out. Besides if your opponent wins with an alternate win-con.

Had the same idea with Melira, Sylvok OutcastMTG Card: Melira, Sylvok Outcast. What you should worry is about destroying enchantments, a mill deck, or being given poison counters from an other source.

@_Grintex as I said earlier, any source that actually deals damage in poison counters is still technically dealing damage so Delaying ShieldMTG Card: Delaying Shield will redirect that damage entirely.

For Wheel of Sun and Moon if they have Leyline of the Void on the field which triggers first? Cause if Leyline of the Void triggered first it would be able to stop the anti-mil of Wheel of Sun and Moon because they wouldn't be going to the graveyard but instead would being exiled.
