Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and double faced cards
Asked by Bobby654 9 years ago
Here's what was going on. I had on the field Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx out with 4 swamps 2 Vampire Nocturnus an Anowon, the Ruin Sage a Child of The Night and Bloodline Keeper Flip. But since Bloodline Keeper Flip was in his moon side when I used the effect of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx wouldn've that gotten me 15 mana with nykthos effect our would I only have 13 mana to spend along with my two extra swamps?

I was about to write the last sentence as:
"You can activate Nykthos for . When you throw in the extra swamps that you don't need to activate Nykthos, that should leave you with
, not
."
But then I realized it would have been a waste of everyone's time.

Thanks. guess I miscounted the amount of mana I would've gotten.

I wonder if perhaps you counted your swamps as generating mana by Nytkhos?

The "transformed" side of a magic card is considered to have its own set of characteristics, separate from the front. This set of characteristics does not include a mana cost, which means there are no black pips in the cost of Lord of Lineage (the flipped side of Bloodline Keeper Flip).
As such Lord of Lineage will count for zero devotion towards a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx activation.
Also worth mentioning that I think your math is off? You have:
so you can activate Nykthos for 9 mana. When you throw in the two extra swamps that you don't need to activate nykthos, that should leave you with 11 black mana, not 13.
