Multiple Legendary Creatures
Asked by ShadowLand 12 years ago
So if I am understanding this question, in standard play, I can have more than one legendary creature on the BF as long as they are not the same legendary creature?
Might seem like a newb question, but I just have never needed to use more than 1 at the same time.

Or Brothers Yamazaki . Kamigawa had loads of legends and I think brothers is the only silver legend

Ah yes, the brothers. However they do not completely bypass the legend rule, as playing a 3rd would still make them go to the graveyard.
This is the wiki article about the Legend rule.

Just in case you're wondering, it's also okay to have two legends representing the same "character" as long as they have different names. Crovax the Cursed can be on the battlefield at the same time as Ascendant Evincar , Balthor the Stout can be out at the same time as Balthor the Defiled , and Braids, Cabal Minion can be out at the same time as Braids, Conjurer Adept .
This is different from the way planeswalkers work. Their rule depends on type, not name. Chandra Nalaar and Chandra Ablaze both have the type "Chandra", so they send each other to the graveyard.

If you're talking about Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius , then yes. As it's been explained already in the thread (and expanded on in my last post), the legend rule only applies to legendary cards with the same name. Firemind and Dracogenius have different names.

Well as the legends rule now stands, you would pick which one you wanted to keep on the battlefield after the spell resolved, as both of them would not be allowed to remain.
Only one would be sent to the graveyard

Yes. For example Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Odric, Master Tactician can both be out at the same time, but two Odrics cannot.
Legendary creatures are ruled to go to the graveyard if two with the same name are on the battlefield on the same time. This also applies if you control one, and your opponent plays another with the same name.
I think the only card that bypasses this is Mirror Gallery .
