Mana echoes + multiple creatures

Asked by Zgarbas 13 years ago

If you have a Mana EchoesMTG Card: Mana Echoes on the table and you cast something that grants you multiple creatures, how much mana do you get? IIRC since they enter at the same time each would consider the others as already being on the table.

So if I cast Increasing DevotionMTG Card: Increasing Devotion I should get 20 mana, right?

Yes, all creatures enter at the same time. This came up a lot with Zendikar and Allies. Especially with Rite of ReplicationMTG Card: Rite of Replication and Join the RanksMTG Card: Join the Ranks.

When an effect places multiple creatures on the field at once, each one "sees" each other enter the field. The same with external effects, they "see" all the creatures entering at same time. So in your example, you would get 20 colorless mana (provided you had no other humans out and not casting from your graveyard, of course.)

The same holds true for them leaving the field. If a player casts Day of JudgmentMTG Card: Day of Judgment, a DeathgreeterMTG Card: Deathgreeter will gain you X life, where X is the number of other creatures dying even though Deathgreeter is going with them.

OmegaSerris is correct. Another example of this was with Valakut. If there 4 mountains on the field and someone cast primeval titan searching two mountains. Both mountains would trigger Valakut because they see each other at the same time.

In your question you would have 20 colorless mana provided the appropriate stipulations already mentioned by OmegaSerris

Wouldn't you get 25 colorless mana?

Mana Echoes ruling from Gatherer..

"You do get to count the creature itself, you even get one mana if it is the only creature you have on the battlefield (assuming it has at least one creature type)."

OmegaSerris, please explain the math as to why you either get 20 or 25 mana.

Thank you!
