Lightning bolt after a pump spell (stack)

Asked by RoastyToast 9 years ago

Hey, I'm relatively new to the game, and i just recently learned about all the interactions, stack, priority etc. So, let's say I'm playing against infect deck. I have a Lightning bolt in my hand, and my opponent few pump spells in his hand. He also has a Glistener elf on the battlefield. So, i understand that if my opponent casts Giant growth, and in response i cast my Lightning bolt, i will put 3 damage on the Glistener elf, he will die and the growth will fizzle. But I'm not sure how it works with multiple pump spells - for example: If my opponent casts Giant growth, Titanic growth and a Mutanic growth, do they all go on stack, allowing me to just cast Lightning bolt and causing all the growths to fizzle, or is he taking a shortcut, casting all of them separetly, meaning the correct play would be to cast Lightning bolt after the Giant growth, so the Glistener elf dies, and my opponent can no longer cast any of his growths on it? I know this post is very long and hard to understand, but I'm really stuck right now :D

Please link all cards in your question:
Giant Growth, Lightning Bolt, Glistener Elf, Mutagenic Growth, Titanic Growth
Your opponent was short cutting. Unless a player specifically says he or she is doing something in response to something else, the first thing must resolve first. To resolve, ALL players need to pass priority. Your opportunity to cast your bolt (to any effect) would be after your opponent casts Giant Growth. You would not know if your opponent is planning/is able to respond to your bolt with more pump spells. If your opponent tries this shortcut, you should point out to them that they must pass priority in order to cast multiple things if they to not want to cast them in response to one another. If your opponent were to cast them in response to one another, your bolt would fizzle everything. If they cast it one at a time, and you respond to Giant Growth with your bolt, your oppponent could respond to your bolt with Titanic Growth and Mutagenic Growth to make his/her Glistener Elf a 7/7 with 3 damage on it when the bolt resolves.

Ask your opponent to clarify whether they're casting everything at once. That's the only way to be sure, really.
