Is my deck legal for the current standard?
Asked by PhatFatWookie 7 years ago
Hi,
I am new in the forum and the community and I hope I am not upsetting anyone with asking a stupid question.
I am currently building a standard deck (which I will upload once everything works fine). I don't have a lot of cards and bought a couple of decks with my wife. For my standard deck I have decided to pick the Ob-Nixilis deck from the Nissa-vs-Ob-Nixilis apart and also the Nicol Bolas deck.
Long story short, I have looked at those graphs which describe the timeline of decks which are legal to use in standard and I was unsure if the decks I have used out of the decks I have mentioned above would be legal in the current standard.
I would appreciate if somebody more experience could verify if that is ok or not.
Here are the links to the decks I have used:

I appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!
The Ob Nixilis deck is NOT Standard legal. The Duel decks rarely are, as they grab cards from the whole history of Magic.
ALL the Planeswalker decks are currently Standard legal.
Since the Nicol Bolas deck is in the newest set, it will be Standard legal for quite some time.
My suggestion is that you grab the OTHER recent Planeswalker deck, and tweak it and the Nicol Bolas deck for Standard play.
Then just use the Duel decks to practice against each other at home.
If you make a deck on TappedOut using those deck lists you will be told if it is Standard legal or not.
Do all the Tutorials on your Profile page, to learn how to do that.

Everything in the Nicol Bolas planeswalker deck is Standard legal. I believe that only a handful of cards in the Ob Nixilis deck (Ob Nixilis Reignited, Carrier Thrall, Demon's Grasp, and Altar's Reap) are Standard legal.

Thanks a lot for the quick answers! I guess I will have to start over then :-) . I have built a Black/White Zombie deck out of those which worked well, maybe I am able to do something similar with the current standard. Thanks again guys!

I have just double checked whats in my deck from the Ob Nixilis dual deck. It is only the Quest for the Gravelord and Ob Nixilis Reignited. I was finally able to find out to which exact block they belong and they are both from the Zendikar block. SO if they have that dual set symbol on them, but are also available in the zendikar block they should be fine, right?

Being printed in a Duel Deck doesn't make a card standard legal, though being printed in a Planeswalker deck does. Quest for the Gravelord is from original Zendikar, and is not standard legal. Ob Nixilis Reignited is from Battle for Zendikar block, which is standard legal until late September.

A large majority of the cards (all of them) in the Nissa vs. Ob Nixilis duel decks are not standard legal (the exception being the planeswalkers), and then the cards that are legal will rotate very soon. The entirety of the Nicol Bolas deck is standard legal however and is designed as an entry deck into Magic and standard.
