How does Anowon, the Ruin Thief work with Leyline of the Void?

Asked by Sheepking2000 2 years ago

Would it be safe to assume I can draw a card from Anowon, the Ruin Thief despite the replacement effect?

Going off of a ruling for Leyline of the Void from 2021/03/19--If your opponent discards a card while you control Leyline of the Void, abilities that check whether a card is discarded (such as Hollow One, or a madness ability of the discarded card) still work, even though that card never reaches that player’s graveyard. In addition, spells or abilities that check the characteristics of the discarded card can find that card in exile--we can assume that milling works like discarding in this sense, and ergo would let you draw the card.

Omniscience_is_life: Hmm, seems unlikley considering Helm of Obedience + Leyline of the Void is an inf mill combo

However, maybe helm works slightly differently?

Flooremoji Actually, you might be right here. I think I slightly misread Anowon .

Helm of Obedience looks for cards being put into the graveyard. Anowon, the Ruin Thief looks for a creature card being milled. You can still draw when milling to exile.

Personally, I believe that Anowon, the Ruin Thief cares about the action of moving a creature card, not exactly where it goes.
