Flicker Archaeomancer?
Asked by subiskier 11 years ago
If I were to use Ghostly Flicker on Archaeomancer and bring back the ghostly flicker? Is it in the graveyard when the ETB trigger happens?
That's great! With two Goblin Electromancer s out this is infinite correct?

Umm... It will only cost you 1 mana for a flicker, and you'll get it back, so it's not necessarily infinite, but it's more like a buyback that downgrades it to a Cloudshift . With Gilded Lotus ,and Electromancer and an archaeomancer, to my understanding, you'll have infinite mana, for example.

If you flicker the archaeomancer and the tapped island they come back untapped so you can do it again for one mana, come back untapped etc. right?

Technically, this is what happens:
Ghostly Flicker begins to resolve. Archaeomancer and another permanent are exiled, then returned to the battlefield. Archaeomancer 's ability triggers (not activates) as soon as it returns to the battlefield, but it must wait until Ghostly Flicker fully resolves before it can be placed onto the stack.
Ghostly Flicker fully resolves and is placed into its owner's graveyard. Then, Archaeomancer 's ability is put onto the stack. You now choose targets for that ability. Because Ghostly Flicker is now in your graveyard, it is a legal target for the ability.
With a cost reduction of 2 for Ghostly Flicker , you can continually cast it and return it by exiling a blue-producing land along with Archaeomancer . This will increment the storm count for the turn, but you will need to flicker something capable of producing two or more mana if you want to do anything with the combo.

If I do that combo with Guttersnipe or Talrand, Sky Summoner on the battlefield that's infinite damage or tokens correct? Trying to nail down this deck and want to make sure it's kosher

Correct. The process is sustainable so long as you flicker Archaeomancer and a blue source, so you can use either Guttersnipe or Talrand, Sky Summoner to produce advantage from the loop.

Also, cards with Landfall may be something to consider. Something like Hedron Crab will give you an infinite mill combo.

Yes. The ghostly flicker has to fully resolve, thus placing it in the graveyard, before Archaeomancer 's ability activates. I'm fairly sure on this one, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
