Explain to me what birthing pod does

What does the green care from new phyrexia [birthing pod] do?

What Birthing Pod does is pretty cool, and sneaky.

It allows you for 1G or 1 and 2 life, to sacrifice a creature and tutor out another creature with a converted mana cost one greater than the sacrificed creature. Example, if I sacrifice Viridian Emissary with Birthing Pod I can search my library for a creature with a converted mana cost of 3. (because Viridian Emissary has a converted mana cost of 2) Maybe I'll bring out Deceiver Exarch and untap my Birthing Pod , and then I'll sac him and bring out a creature with a converted mana cost of 4! Birthing Pod is great because it adds consistency to the deck and almost guarantees that you'll be doing something productive every turn!

When you activate Birthing Pod 's ability, you pay 1 colorless and a Phyrexian green, tap it, and sacrifice a creature. This may be done only on your turn when the stack is empty.

When the ability resolves, you look at the converted mana cost of your creature. You then search your library for a creature card with a converted mana cost equal to one plus that of the sacrificed creature and put it onto the battlefield, shuffling your library afterwards.

For example, say you have a Birthing Pod and a Birds of Paradise on the field. You sacrifice the Birds as part of the Pod's ability. Then, when the ability resolves, you search your library. The converted mana cost of Birds is 1. Therefore, you may find a creature with converted mana cost 2, since 1 + the CMC of the sacrificed creature = 2. The creature card you find can be ANY creature card in your deck, so long as its converted mana cost is the appropriate number.

In this example, Runeclaw Bear , Goblin Piker , and Viridian Emissary are all legal fetches. card:Gideon's Lawkeeper is not, because its mana cost is too low; Elvish Archdruid is not, because its mana cost is too high.

The creature you fetch is put directly onto the battlefield. It is NOT cast as a spell, but it does enter the battlefield and therefore sets off any enters-the-battlefield triggers it normally would.

I like watching people spend amusing amounts of time birthing podding out creatures while I sit back watching and surveying until just the right moment to board wipe and watch their birthing pod plans reset.

I still like Mimic Vat more, even if I do agree about the earlier comment with regard to the added consistency...

Mimic Vat + Birthing Pod = sexy.

It screws over the opponent even if they play a perfectly timed field wipe.

its simple you pay the cost including sacking the creature then it puts an ability on to the stack

when it resolves you search your libary for a creature card with +1 the converted mana cost of the sacked creature or less (if the creatures cmc was 3 for example you could get a creature with a cmc of 4 or less) and put it into play

any come into play effects trigger but casting effects do not

oops i failed to noticed that it does not let you get cards with a lower cmc like most similar cards do
