Edh rulings and cascade rules

Asked by Magicalswift 7 years ago

I have a few ruling questions for some cards in my Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder deck

1.When i use Chandra, Pyromaster's second ability and i play the card does cascade works on the card i played

  1. Again with Chandra, Pyromaster but this time its for her third ability does the cascade skill triggers for the 3 copies of the instant or sorcery i exiled

  2. Xenagos, the Reveler -6 does it count as casting a card ?

  3. If i have Altar of the Brood on the field does a card i cast from cascade triggers the skill

  4. When i cast a card with X and a green ( the X being 5) how does it work with cascade does it count as a 6 or just 1

  5. I know that in a commander deck you can only use cards with the same mana symbols as the one your commander have but what of a card like Naya Panorama when it says the name and doesn't show any color symbol does the same rules apply

1 You are casting the card from exile, not your hand, so Yidris does not give it cascade.

1 2.0 (I assume there was a formatting error?) You are casting the copies from exile so again Yidris does not give them cascade.

2 You are putting the cards into play, not casting them, so they can not be countered and will not count as casting for any casting triggers. Yet again the cards are in exile too, so that is a second reason Yidris will not trigger on them.

3 Altar of the Brood cares about permanents entering the battlefield, so if the spell you cascade into is a permanent that eventually resolves, yes altar will trigger.

4 For the purposes of spells on the stack X is the declared number. So your hypothetical card has a CMC of 6 for cascade.

5 Land types in rules text do not count toward the color identity. So you could play all the panoramas or even Onslaught/Zendikar fetches in any deck.

In the future, please ask unrelated questions in separate threads. It's much easier to provide concise answers when we only have to answer one or maybe two questions.

What's the point?

No disrespect but why make 2 differents threads for questions that are all linked to my deck (or mechanics that i have in my deck) everything was separated clearly to make it easier and boom i got someone who answered them all is one answer

Why waste time making several threads when i can make one with all my interrogations and organize them in one post?

You're very welcome.

The point of multiple threads for unrelated or tangentially related questions is that it helps others searching for an answer. Whether it be on a google search or perusing the answered questions, a concise title for a single question is more likely to be viewed. It also broadens the scope a bit from your specific deck to a more generalized topic to assist more people.

For example only 4 is really about the rules of cascade and only 5 is about the rules of EDH. 1 and 1' are about the interaction of Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder and Chandra, Pyromaster. 2 is about if Xenagos, the Reveler's Ult counts as casting. 3 is about what constitutes a permanent entering the battlefield. If you had instead broke the question into five questions you are more likely to help a greater number of people via them reading your question and the answers to it.

I personally don't care too much about multiple questions in a thread. I am just a knowledgeable user though, not an administrator. Therefore; I am concerned about ensuring that the site contains fully correct and clear information instead of trying to streamline the site itself. I probably should have mentioned that the administrators prefer a separate post for each question but it wasn't as important to me as ensuring you had correct answers to all of your questions.

Well i didn't see it that way thank you again for helping me again by giving me a clear explanation and like i said it was not meant to be a disrespectful post i just didn't understand the point of it

Good explanation.

Yeah, it's not something we'll crucify you for; it doesn't make a ton of difference at the end of the day, and we understand that it's faster to just ask all the questions in the same thread. It's just easier for those searching for or answering questions if threads are kept to one or two related ideas.

The more important thing is that the question(s) get answered, which usually happens regardless of how they're groups.
