Double Aurelia the Warleader
Asked by Obisean 10 years ago
If I have two Aurelias out plus a number of other creatures and decide to attack with all but ONE of my Aurelias, Then during the next combat could I attack with my second Aurelia and get a third combat step from her effect?
It's also important to remember that without Mirror Gallery you are not able to have more than one legendary card with the same name on the battlefield under your control.

It's worth noting that you would get two extra combat phases total whether you attack with both in the first combat phase or hold one until the second combat phase.

Oh, yes :) My first EDH deck used Aurelia as a commander. besides having multiple aurelias with mirror gallery, there are a couple of other cards that combo well with her.
Cloudshift - Simple. Elegant: Attack once, and before the second combat, play cloudshift targeting Aurelia, then attack again. Since the re-entered Aurelia counts as a new creature even though it is represented by the same physical card, she gives you a third combat phase.
Provided that you already have mirror gallery out, you can get infinite combats and infinite Warleaders with Splinter Twin, although that seems very unfun.
My personal favorite Aurelia combo, albeit a little complicated, is Felhide Spiritbinder. If you attack with him and Aurelia at the same time, It will be tapped (from attacking), then untapped (from Aurelia), allowing you to pay for its inspired ability. This will give you a copy of Aurelia, and if you choose to keep the copy and sacrifice* the original Aurelia, you will get to attack with the copy and do the same thing over again. This essentially gives you any number of combat phases for 1R each. The problem is that Aurelia will never reach the combat damage step, and if someone blocks and kills the spiritbinder, the combo fails. In EDH I coupled this with Safe Passage/Boros Charm (to protect the Spiritbinder) and a Ghitu Encampment/Boros Keyrune (untap with Aurelia, tap for mana to make tokens) and got 9 combat steps in one turn. Good times.
*I don't know if creatures dying to the legendary rule count as being sacrificed. I don't know many cases where this would matter, either. (Mortician Beetle, maybe?)

The legend rule doesn't cause any sacrifices. The extra permanents are just put into their owner's graveyard.

Let's assume we have Mirror Gallery.
Yes, that's fine. Aurelia, the Warleader triggers when she attacks for the first time in a turn. It doesn't have to be in the first combat phase.
Use double square brackets around a card's name to link it, so it's easier for readers to know exactly which cards you're talking about without having to go look things up.
