Dominating Licid and Mirrorweave
Asked by chosenone124 7 years ago
My opponent controls a Dominating Licid and a Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre. I control a Storm Crow cast two turns ago.
I cast Mirrorweave on their Dominating Licid, then I use my "Dominating Licid" to steal Ulamog.
When Mirrorweave wears off, does the Storm Crow still enchant Ulamog and let me keep him, or does the crow fall off?
I ask because Licid's ability seems to be a CDA. So even when we remove the copy effect from layer 1, I would assume that bird still has the licid effect making it a Enchantment Aura - Bird.
The end result is you will control an Enchantment - Aura (not bird, as it's not a creature) with "Enchant Creature, Flying" that you may pay to make it stop being an aura and go back to being a Creature - Bird. Note that it will no longer have "you control enchanted creature," as Dominating Licid's control changing ability is now an additional ability on the creature rather than part of the effect making it an aura. What this means is while your Storm Crow is still attached to Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre, you will not retain control of it.

Are you sure it's an additional ability? It seems to read as if its replacing the ability.

Oracle text of Dominating Licid:
1UU, T: Dominating Licid loses this ability and becomes an Aura enchantment with enchant creature. Attach it to target creature. You may pay U to end this effect.
You control enchanted creature.
The control changing effect is an ability of the licid. Once Storm Crow is no longer a copy of the licid it will no longer be a Control Magic

Interesting. This could be a fun way to cheat Bestow cards into aura enchantments

By the way, I can pay U to make Storm Crow into a creature again right?

Yes, the ability to change back to a creature is granted by the type changing effect.

Also, this almost actually happened in an EDH game if the turn player didn't wrath the board.
