Does Inkmoth Nexus die?
Asked by DrkNinja 12 years ago
If I attack with an Inkmoth while it is a 1/1 does it get sent to the grave? Or does it remain?

It only dies if something causes it to die, like lethal damage or a "destroy" effect. If that happens, then the card is put into the graveyard. Otherwise, it just stops being a creature when the current turn ends (it goes back to being a land).

i thought it remained tho because in the end its ''still a land'' ? you just don't take the damage from the creature that turn, if you kill it.

it dies just as an artifact creature dies from a destroy artifact card. it has added bonuses and bad side affects. because it is another card type, it gains another way to die, and each remaining way to die remains.

It only remains a creature until the end of the turn. If it is not dealt damage enough to kill it, or destroyed with a spell or effect, it will turn back into a land. At any time you have the mana, you could turn it into a creature again for the turn.

The "its still a land" a land meand you can kill it with a a card that says "destroy target land" even if it is an animated aritifact creature. the "its still a land" does not stop the card from going to the graveyard it the animated artifact creature dies. You are using an ability to turn a land into a creature for a turn. If that creature dies, it goes to the graveyard like any other creature.

It dies just like any creature... So, if i get it right, you want to know if it goes to the graveyard if its assigned lethal damage? - it does.

It sounds to me like the crux of his problem is that he doesn't really understand the nature of permanents and permanent types.
"Land" is simply another permanent type, just the same as "Knight" is a different SUBtype than "Goblin" or "Wizard".
Permanent types - Land, creature, artifact, etc. - a merely designators. They tell you what can influence that permanent, and in some cases, notably creatures, tell you whether or not you need to pay attention to rules that pertain to that type only. For example, creatures have to worry about being destroyed due to lethal damage, while other permanent types don't have that.
So for Inkmoth Nexus , while it's just a land, it doesn't need to worry about lethal damage, but it also can't ever attack or block, since that's not something lands can do. When you activate it's ability, it turns in to a Artifact Land Creature with a power and toughness, which enables you to attack with it - but also means that it can get destroyed by anything that destroys a creature, such as lethal damage, a Doom Blade , or a Disfigure . (It's also an artifact, which means it can be hit by something like Shatter where it couldn't before.)
