Do copied spells count as being cast?
Asked by TheOne4221 9 years ago
Take for example you use the Storm keyword from Grapeshot and try to combo it with Blistercoil Weird . Would the multiple copies of Grapeshot provided by Storm count as separate castings, thus triggering the Weird's ability multiple times?
I'd think no, but a friend has told me yes. Who's right?

Just to add: while in your specific example, the copies are not cast, in the general sense, it depends.
Some copies are cast, others are merely put on to the stack - you need to read the specific card each time.

Copies of spells are not cast. Copies of cards can be if the text of the object specifies that you do so.

Cypher cards like Hidden Strings specify that the copies are cast, so those would count. It really depends on the card you're using.

While the copies are not cast it is worth noting that they are still "sorcery spells you control" so Nivmagus Elemental can get silly.

Thanks for the answers everyone. I was hoping that I could abuse Storm with Dack Fayden's ult, but it's good to know that I can't.

@kmcree That falls under the category of "Copies of cards". Copies of spells though, are not cast.
@Gidgetimer Good point!

No, copies created by storm are not cast, they are merely created on the stack.
