Dark Depths --land as a creature questions
Asked by veritas723 9 years ago
Say i have a Dark Depths in play ..it has. whatever many ice counters.
say I awaken Dark Depths or otherwise make the land a creature.
first question is. if Dark Depths itself is a creature, if i clone Dark Depths while it's a creature. would the the clone copy trigger the 20/20 avatar part?
would this work the same whether it's a clone affect like Cryptoplasm that is on the battlefield, and becomes the clone.... vs like a Clone that etbs as the cloned object. ...would the ETB aspect replicate/trigger dark depth's ETB ice counters?
also... as it occurs to me, copying a creature with counters, but no inherent power/toughness. would i also need an anthem? so my creature doesn't die by being a natural 0/0 ?
also... as a third case. say I have an awakened. or have turned Dark Depths into a creature, ...and I blink/exile it with... Deadeye Navigator would the return to the battlefield re-trigger the ice counters etb of dark depths?
brewing a Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper edh. thinking of ways to maximize abusing Dark Depths

Note first that when copying an animated permanent, the object that is copying it is not animated as that is not a copy-able value.
1) If you cast a Clone copying an animated Dark Depths, it will enter with 10 ice counters on it. Whenever a copy of a permanent happens, it copies all copy-able values which includes any and all abilities printed on the card.
2) Cryptoplasm can become a copy of an animated Dark Depths. It will have 0 ice counters on it, because it was already on the battlefield, and you may sacrifice it per the triggered ability to get the 20/20.
3) As stated initially, animation is not a copy-able value, so Clone or Cryptoplasm will become a non-animated Dark Depths.
4) If you flicker/blink an animated Dark Depths with Deadeye Navigator, it will return to the battlefield non-animated and with a new set of 10 ice counters.
5) Intruder Alarm works wonders with Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper as long as you have a way to throw a creature into play to untap your animated lands for more mana.
Note that when copying this land, it is a legendary permanent, so the legend rule will apply. For best results, (atleast for Cryptoplasm) sacrifice the real Dark Depths and let the triggered ability from Cryptoplasm/Dark Depths resolve, giving you the 20/20.
