contamination ground and shocklands

Asked by Sagi007 11 years ago

if Contaminated Ground is enchanted to say Watery Grave can it still be tapped for blue, since it was a swamp to begin with?

6/15/2010: The enchanted land loses its existing land types and any abilities printed on it. It now has the land type Swamp and has the ability to tap to add B to its controller's mana pool. Contaminated Ground doesn't change the enchanted land's name or whether it's legendary, basic, or snow.

Contaminated Ground turns a land into a pseudo-basic Swamp .

I had Contaminated Ground used on my Simic Guildgate at the GTC prerelease. It was annoying.

Note that the contaminated shockland does not gain the supertype "basic"

Zandi is right. Contaminated Ground takes away all abilitys of the land and turns it into a swamp that can only be tapped for B. Also as Matsi883 said, if played on a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx it won't change it's legend status so playing another shrine would still force you to sacrifice the first.

...which could be a good thing, as the second Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx you played on top of the the one with a Contaminated Ground on it would cause the first one to hit the grave, leaving you with a normal Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx .

If the land has other types, like creature or artifact, does it lose them or does that types remain unchanged?

Effects like Contaminated Ground only change the card's land subtypes, not its card types. Seat of the Synod will still be an artifact and Dryad Arbor will still be a creature.
