Card clarity - Spellbinder
Asked by Not_Sure 9 years ago
(Gatherer rulings)(copies an instant card, the copy is created in the exile zone.) Can the spell copy be removed from the exile zone by a player, considering exile is what they used to describe "removed from the game"?(If the spell has X cost the cost is 0, you do pay any additional costs.)Assuming additional costs would be like paying X for the original spell.(You can't pay alternative costs)Please define alternative.(The creation of the copy and then the casting of the copy are both optional.)If one chooses to create a copy, but doesn't cast it; is the copy playable in future turns?
Please and thank you.

No, the copy only exists for the duration of the effect (and while it is on the stack if you choose to cast it).

An alternative cost is like Overload on Cyclonic Rift. Alternative costs are alternate methods of paying for a spell. Some alternative costs do not even require mana, like with Force of Will. However, if you imprinted Cyclonic Rift on Spellbinder, you would only ever be able to cast a normal copy of it, i.e. without overload, as you are casting it without paying ANY alternative costs.

With Spellbinder, the choice you have it whether or not to copy the spell. If you choose to copy it, you will have to cast it (if possible). If you cannot cast it, the copy would cease to exist the next time state-based actions are checked. Copies of spells cease to exist outside of abilities (like Isochron Scepter or Spellbinder) or the stack (like with the storm copies of Tendrils of Agony).
