Can you equip a 0/0 creature before it dies?
Asked by thorton 13 years ago
For example, I have a Heartless Summoning and Lashwrithe on the battlefield and summon Perilous Myr . Can I equip it with Lashwrithe before it dies and potentially save it?
This is true however there is a way:
Living Weapon creates a 0/0 Germ token with the equipment attached to it (and most living weapons give at least +1 toughness). This circumvents the state-based action check because the 0/0 creature is coming into play with the equipment already on it
Even if you could somehow equip at instant speed (Leonin Shikari ) your 0/0 would still die because state-based actions are checked before anything happens in the game. Literally.

what about equip cards like Cranial Plating it has an active equip ability so you could activate its equip ability (in this case the two black mana) in responce and therefore save the token...I think Im not quite sure on that but im pretty sure that would work

killroy726 that would still not work. State Based Actions are checked everytime a player would get priority.
So before you even get priority and get a chance to respond by activating Cranial Plating , the Myr will have died for having 0 toughness, and gone to the graveyard as a SBA.

killroy726: Even if you could somehow get the cranial plating onto your token, it would still die because it would have 0 toughness.
Here is how the game will look at the situation you're describing (I will assume that there is a
2: enters the battlefield. If there are any effects that trigger upon Delver entering the battlefield they trigger.
3: Before priority is established in APNAP order, layering effects from to 0.
4: Before priority is established in APNAP order, state-based actions are checked and resolved. This will place Delver of Secrets into the Graveyard.
5: Any effects that trigger upon leaving the battlefield trigger.
6: Leave the Battlefield Triggers go onto the stack
7: Enter the Battlefield Triggers go onto the stack
8: You get priority meaning you could now, after all of this has happened, activate Mortarpod or some other toughness increasing equipment.
The only way that you could circumvent this chain of events is if during the resolution of an effect you can sneak the equipment onto the Delver as it enters the battlefield (As it enters means that it comes into play with the equipment on it like Living Weapon).

No. State-based actions check after the Perilous Myr
resolves and before you would get priority and place the Myr into your graveyard for having 0 toughness. You don't even have a chance to activate the equip ability let alone resolve it.
