Can you Disallow Omnath?
Asked by HawkOfOblivion 4 years ago
Simple question - Can you use Disallow to counter the first ability of Omnath, Locus of Mana ? I know you can’t counter mana abilities but I can’t find a ruling anywhere that says what kind of ability [Omnath, Locus of Mana]] has. It would seem to me like a triggered ability that hits the stack each time mana could leave the mana pools but I could be wrong, hence why I’m here.
To add to what Rhadamanthus said, there's a vital difference between static abilities and activated/triggered abilities: Activated and triggered abilities go on the stack and resolve. Disallow works by targeting the ability when it's put on the stack and countering it so it doesn't resolve.
Static abilities just add a modifier to the game, which exists as long as the object with the ability is in play. They never go on the stack, which is why Disallow can't target them.

I try to avoid choosing my own response when I do this, but in this case it seemed to be the most complete response to your question.

No, Disallow can't be used on Omnath, Locus of Mana 's first ability, as it's neither activated nor triggered.
There are three kinds of abilities:
