Can the infinite combo Exquisite Blood and Vizkopa Guildmage's be stopped by Lich's Mirror?

Asked by SoulCalibur 12 years ago

If a person is subject to this infinite combo, even though it would still be a loss, but would the combo's effect be delayed if the mirror was activated?

no, when you the persons life reaches 0, Lich's Mirror will trigger and then it will do its ability once it finishes then the infinite combo will continue and the person will be loosing 2 in a raw....IMO

No. The life loss that drops you below 1 will trigger Exquisite Blood . After you're done processing the replacement effect of Lich's Mirror the trigger will resolve and the loop will keep running. Eventually you'll drop below 1 again and lose the game.

Ruric is mostly correct except for that Lich's Mirror doesn't trigger. It's ability creates a replacement effect. When the part of the loop (which technically is not infinite) that reduces your life total to 0 resolves and the next part of the chain goes onto the stack, before anyone gets priority, the game will check conditions for state-based actions and will see your 0 life total. The Mirror here will replace the effect of your losing by what its written on it. However the next part of the loop has already been placed onto the stack by now and it will resolve triggering its next step and so on. When your life total reaches 0 again, you will have no Mirror to protect you this time.

Skullcrack can interrupt the combo because it will cause your opponent to not gain life, thus making him or her unable to trigger Vizkopa Guildmage .

Or Pithing Needle . Usually you will have a turn to respond to the play of Exquisite Blood before they have the three mana to use the guildmage's ability, so pithing needle works great for that. Or run a control deck and play Supreme Verdict or Detention Sphere . But now I'm rambling... Ha
