Can multiple Cultivator of Blades boost each other before boosting others?

Asked by vic 7 years ago

I have 2 Cultivator of Blades (each with two +1/+1 counters) plus other creatures on my battlefield. I cast an Overrun and attack with everything.

How much total boost can this potentially give each of my CoB's, and how much boost for my other creatures? I know I choose the order of triggers, so it's a question of whether the CoB's can boost each other (thus increasing their power) before boosting my other critters.

I believe it would not work that way, and that altogether I would get +9/+9 for the Cultivators and +15/+15 (+3 Overrun, then +6 CoB, +6 CoB) for each of the rest, but I'd like to be sure.

1/ The cultivators become 6/6s until end of turn.
2/ Other creatures will get only +3/+3 and trample from Overrun at this point.
3/ Cultivators will in fact stack their bonuses. From gatherer on cultivator:

"9/20/2016: The value of X is determined as Cultivator of Bladess last ability resolves."

3/ The first cultivator trigger resolves. It will grant everyone +6/+6. The other cultivator will become a 12/12, other creatures will at this point have +9/+9.

4/ Second cultivator trigger resolves. It will grant every other creature +12/+12.

End result:

1 Cultivator 12/12
1 Cultivator 18/18
All other creatures +21/+21 and Trample.

Boza I have a followup question.

If I were to declare my attack, including a Cultivator of Blades, wait until my opponent declares blockers, and then surprise him with a Giant Growth on the CoB, does that give my other attackers the boost?

It says "When Cultivator of Blades attacks". Does that mean when I declare the attack or is it anytime during combat? Thanks.

"When X attacks" means after the attackers are declared. Changing the power of Cultivator after its trigger resolves will not alter the bonus it has already given out.

Another example - someone plays Make Obsolete in your first main phase and clears your board of 1/1s. In the second main phase, you play an Ravenous Rats. Will it die?

No, because Make Obsolete affects things which are present as it resolves, despite saying until end of turn (that just specifies the duration of the effect). The same applies to the bonus of Cultivator.
