Can I play artifact lands at instant speed with Shimmer Myr?
Asked by Blakkhand 12 years ago
Here's the scenario:
Mycosynth Lattice and Shimmer Myr are on the field. It's during my opponent's turn and he's dropping Blightsteel Colossus , for example. I have an untapped Island in play and both a Counterspell and a Island in my hand. Could I drop the Island and use the mana to cast the counter? Also, would this allow me to play as many lands as I wanted on their turn by way of the stack? Thank you in advance.
Just to expand on this a bit as well; the land would not get the artifact type until it has already been placed on the field; a land is not a permanent (or any creature/enchantment, etc.) until it is on the battlefield. Mycosynth Lattice does not turn things in your hand into artifacts; it just makes them colorless. Therefore, even normal creatures could not be cast as though they had flash.

If you were using one of the artifact lands like Ancient Den I think you could play it at instant speed. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

No, because playing a land isn't casting a spell. Shimmer Myr only gives you special permission to cast artifact spells.

Even if you somehow gave all your artifact cards flash, you still couldn't play an artifact land at instant speed for the reason I gave in post #1.

Ok, thanks, I guess I need to go re-read my comp rules. Sigh, it's such a long book....

No. Playing a land is a special action that you may take only on your turn at sorcery speed. It doesn't use the stack, and other effects can't change when you would drop lands.
