Vile Rebirth

As a way to either combat aggro, or to give aggro some reach against control, what are your guys' thoughts on it?

I mean, a 2/2 for B at instant speed seems good to me. It could even thwart a Whip of Erebos activation for monoblack...

The biggest problem for Vile Rebirth is that it comes down too late. By the time you have somehow found a way to get a creature in a graveyard, it will probably be too late for a 2/2 to be relevant at all.

I agree, however, a 2/2 for one at instant speed, especially against B/G is great value.

If you're trying to fight Whip of Erebos , Crypt Incursion is probably a better way to go, as it takes away off their fuel, and pads your life total.

But in an aggro deck, Vile Rebirth might have a spot in the SB, if you know you're up against another creature heavy deck.

If you're playing B/G, go with Deathrite Shaman s first. They're great against control and help keep pressure off of you against other aggro decks by gaining you life.

I think you guys are missing my point...

Basically, I'm thinking of this as a 1 CMC removal spell against decks like Monored, white weenie, or other "fast aggro" style decks.

Most of the time your removal (or creatures) will have already taken out one of theirs so you can exile it from THEIR graveyard. Since most of their creatures are x/2 or less, it basically turns it into a 1 drop instant speed removal spell (most won't even think of the card until it's too late). This also helps against things like Chandra's Phoenix so that it can't come back

I originally thought of using it vs Esper at EoT as a response to a Supreme Verdict when they're tapped out, but now I'm thinking it could be good in Grixis Control AGAINST aggro decks. Most of the time you're having to use 2 mana to kill one creature whereas once you do this, you can cast 2 "removal" spells in the same turn by lowering the removal curve
