In this post, Mark Rosewater stated that he was skeptical of the day/night mechanic returning, but why is that? I find that it is a better version of the previous mechanic for werewolves, especially because it can be used on cards other than werewolves, making it far more flexible, so I do not see any good reason for it to not return.
What does everyone else say, about this subject? Why is Mark Rosewater skeptical about the return of day/night? I certainly am interested to hear your thoughts, on this matter.

I'd have to look for specific posts, but in addition to what legendofa stated, I remember MaRo has shared that Day/Night wasn't a popular mechanic. Generally speaking, sometimes mechanics aren't brought back extensively because they don't test well in market research with players.

The biggest issue is tracking. As it stands now, once the day/night cycle starts, it stays active for the rest of the game. It's entirely possible to have to track day/night for several turns when nothing cares about it, so that you know which stage it's in when something does end up caring about it.
An experienced Werewolf player can probably track it more or less automatically. But if you only have a couple of cards that care, like Graveyard Trespasser Flip in a discard deck or Brutal Cathar Flip in a control-tempo deck, it's more work if there's multiple turns where you have to track it to see if you end up with Moonrage Brute Flip.
