What's the deal with all these people who hate control?

I thought it would be fun to play with my old extended Psychatog deck on MTGO but the only format it is legal in is Classic or Legacy. So I take it into the just for fun rooms and as soon as one counterspell hits the stack they either concede right away or worse call me a noob for playing counterspells and other trash talking. So what's the deal in this playlist? Only aggro? That's boring.

Its generally because people dont like the non-interactive games.

"Draw, go." Isn't fun to play against, however, I do find it really fun to play. And the control matchups are also really fun as well.

Maybe its just a bad day for everyone on MTGO.

Eh maybe just a bad day I hope, I will keep playing because I love the deck but overall that really sucks. I am a control player that is my style and my favorite way to play, it's when I'm having the most fun. But if people keep backing out its no fun.

Playing with or against control is the best. Aggro races are so short and simple, I want to have to work for my win. :D

I personally don't enjoy control match ups because they make for a very boring game for me. Control is looking really bad for me right now since I always see a deck that counters everything you play and then slowly kills you with a man land, or snapcaster, to me that isn't a fun way to play magic

To be honest, the reason I started playing Control was because it always ruined my plays. Now I play control and enjoy the sadistic side of it, but only in competitive Standard. Don't like control that much in non-competitive funformats though

Do people not know what uninteractive means? Uninteractive is storm, or reanimator. Control does nothing BUT interact. Your counterspells interact with things they place on the stack. Removal spells interact with their creatures. Your couple of creatures interact with their faces. Control is as interactive as it gets.

As a side note, I'd be fine playing against control in casual, legacy, or anything.

it may be interactive for you, its not very interactive for the other player.

The same happened to me while playin on just for fun an LD and they didnt liked it, im not that control player but think maybe people see control decks as a more competitive playing style than any other, maybe they expect some crazy surprise deck or something....

As a player who enjoys his Aggressive decks, I always leave an out in my deck for the midgame in case I play the control player, such as using Archangel of Thune and Purphoros, God of the Forge in my soul sisters deck. Why do I do that? Because I understand counterspells. board wipes, exiling, discard, and other forms of control happen and i like to work around it. Do i tend to win a little later do this? Yeah...but the thing ever aggressive player has to remember is control is not the end of the world. you either tune your deck to combat it, sideboard correctly, or doom yourself to boring games where a simple counter ruins your day :/ overall I hate when one player hates on another's playstyle just because they don't know how to innovate against it. I tend to find that these people don't actually know how to build decks and just throw together what they find online and expect to win.

NotSoLuckyLydia That's exactly what I mean. People who think control is uninteractive don't get what interaction is. Playing against control is all about knowing when your opponent has the answer and playing around it. Its a whole different style of magic, and one which is a lot more difficult and rewarding for doing it right. And playing with control is exactly the same, its not easy, it takes careful consideration both in deck building, and when to play your answers, but when done right its one of the most powerful and enjoyable playstyles

A lot of people just hate getting their spells countered and think this is "uninteractive." I think its a part of the challenge, and playing around it is what makes magic what it is.

I often like playing against Control. It makes you think more about each move. Especially when playing with my Tempo deck, the late game becomes a war of attrition, trying to force the opponent too slip up and tap out first. I like that kind of mental battle.

@ icehippo as a MTGO player myself I have some bad news for you. That's just how the community is. A lot of them have a strong hate for control unless you play in Tourney Practice. I've run into one or two fellows who straight up told me that Blue should be banned from play. Period.

When I pointed out my deck's weaknesses, and ways they could exploit those weakness... Well they just rage quit. I'd play you anytime, but sadly I only play Modern :\

The same type of people exist that think turning creatures sideways is bad for the game. As a primarily non control player the only part of control I really have a problem with is counter spells. And that's mainly because all other forms of control have an answer, while counter magic's best answer is counter magic, a style of play I don't enjoy playing.

Cavern of Souls and Boseiju, Who Shelters All are literal answers to counterspells kintighd. If that doesnt work, its up to us aggo players to outsmart them

Yes, I know both of those are answers, but neither can be run in all decks as an answer to counterspells. I guess my final statement is I understand why people play control, I understand why it's good, but it is a play style I do not enjoy playing, or playing against.

Its not just negating counters, its also about playing around them, knowing when your opponent has them, and baiting them out on things you don't really need.

Everyone has made really great points about control, aggro, and the definition and interactive haha. Playing in classic Just For Fun threw me off because I play control in modern Just For Fun and never get this sort of hate from people. I mean I understand if you tap out for a a huge creature and it gets Force Spike d, yeah that will break your balls, but usually it's the first Force Spike or first Counterspell that causes people to quit or call me a noob. And to the guy who said he'd play me: I am more then up for the challenge, modern is my format of choice.
