Which RTR Keywords Do You Think Has the Best Chance of Being Reprinted?

In the original Ravnica: City of Guilds block, there was a new keyword for every guild. Just to refresh everyone's memories, they were:

Hellbent Rakdos Pit Dragon

Forecast Pride of the Clouds

Transmute Clutch of the Undercity

Bloodthirst Skarrgan Skybreaker

Replicate Leap of Flame

Graft Plaxcaster Frogling

Convoke Autochthon Wurm

Radiance Brightflame

Haunt Orzhov Pontiff

Dredge Grave-Shell Scarab

And as it turns out, most of these keywords did see a reprint in other sets. I'm ignoring other, "special" sets like Duel Decks and just focusing on normal blocks and core sets. All but Haunt, Radiance, and Replicate saw reprints in Future Sight. See below:

Dakmor Salvage

Bogardan Lancer

Tolaria West

Angel of Salvation

Spirit en-Dal

Cutthroat il-Dal

Llanowar Reborn (trust me, it was in Future Sight)

And after that, Bloodthirst was then reprinted again in M12, even gaining a new color in black (Bloodlord of Vaasgoth ).

So what keyword from the Return to Ravnica block do you think will have the best chance of being reprinted?

I personally think that Scavenge, Extort, and Evolve may get reprinted, particularly in a core set. I'm not entirely sure why, but I think that they have a chance. Great reasoning, right?

Well Time Spiral block was a bit of a unique case since it was supposed to draw from all of magic, play around with cards design and such. It's arguably the only one that's been really reprinted is Bloodthrist.

I think any of the simpler mechanics would have a good shot of reprint some day, especially those that work well within an archtype. Unleash, Populate, Evolve, Bloodrush and Battalion would be my votes for that. They are are easy to understand, and naturally support their respective strategies. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Overload as well, but there are any number of kicker type effects that could be used.

It will be the most intuitive, mechanically-simple theme. Haunt is a very complicated mechanic, which makes sense that it didn't get reprinted.

Bloodthirst was in M12 because it's probably the easiest mechanic for a new player to grasp. The mechanics of it playing out, combined with an intuitive name for the mechanic, makes it really easy to 'get'.

I think out of all of the RTR guild mechanics, evolve or unleash would be most likely to make it into a core set. They're mechanically simple, and their names clue players into what they do.

I would love to see Unleash and Bloodrush make a return.

I can see any of them except Cipher & Overload really.

I can see Extort being reprinted down the track, maybe Overload too.

All of the mechanics have potential to be reprinted, if Wizards sees that they can fit in whatever block they're working on.

But in a core set, only certain mechanics can be printed. I doubt highly that cipher and overload would be in a core set, just because of the complexity of their abilities.

Sundial of the Infinite was printed in a core set. That's a very complex card especially for beginners.Note* sundial isn't a mechanic. But still complex.

That's true, but sundial was only one card, and printed at rare as well. Wizards' design philosophy is that they don't want too many complicated cards, and cards are more complicated the higher up in rarity tiers you go.

Having a complex mechanic means that there needs to be many cards that display that mechanic (or it wouldn't be worth it to use that keyword), and the mechanic needs to appear in different rarities.

Complex cards do show up in core sets, but very rarely. It would be hard to have a complex mechanic in a core set that follows the rules that Wizards has set for themselves.

Very true. That's y I love mtg. Besides it being fun it can be pretty tough. By that I mean the strategic deck planning.

I'm waiting for cipher to go into instants.

I feel that if anything it'll be unleash, it is simple enough where Wizards would not have a hard time making new cards with this mechanic :D

To be in a core set, they have to find new design space for that mechanic, for example Bloodthirst diverged into black in M12 and Exalted also spread to black in M13. This is a tricky one because the mechanics were designed for the particular colour pair they are in so it may not be easy to find another colour for them -- but there are other ways of exploring a mechanic than putting it in another colour and I doubt that we've seen the last of, say, Evolve, because that's too good a mechanic not to revisit it.

It would be really amazing to see Overload and Bloodrush back in action in the new.

And of course, Graft was a somewhat useful keyword for transferring 1/1 counters to another creature, whether for the purpose of making it stronger or for strategic reasons.

oh man if overload became white/green/black...

destroy target enchantment or artifact: overload

destroy target creature, overload

put a +1/+1 counter on target creature, overload

target creature's controller sacrifices it, overload

I could see all of the new mechanics with the exception of overload and cipher being reprinted.
