Do you ever wonder why these cards aren't just creatures? It's not an instant or anything; so it might as well be a 2-drop 3/3.

1 word: Populate

That's what Selesnya was supposed to be about, after all. You can't populate a 2 drop 3/3

Not to mention it gives more diversity. Can't Essence Scatter a Call of the Conclave .

That too, but more people play Negate over Essence Scatter (or just Dissolve ), so that can be a downside too

The upside is Populate. The downside is it dies to Unsummon effects.

Not to mention other, more niche, things. Something like not being a creature spell that triggers Karametra, God of Harvests 's ability is an example.

But the main reason is... populate. Let's keep it simple, guys.

SpaderAce no problem. All these people overthinking populate, and it's just populate. The rest is gravy.

Yeh most other instants and dorceries that create tokens create multiple tokens or do other things. The populate mechanic would explain why things like Call of the Conclave don't - because then it would soooooo good.
