Best dual deck box for EDH?

Gear forum

I’m building s second EDH deck and don’t wanna carry two deck boxes and I’m torn between the Ultimate Guard Twin Flip N Tray and the Legion Dragon Hide Vault v2.

I’ve watched some reviews and Thd Professor was very pleased with both.

I single sleeve in Katanas but I’m considering switching back to Dragon Shield Mattes with my next deck if it matters. I will also have quite a few tokens and want room for dice.

Any opinions?

personally i like the tower style of the ultimate guard one more but im sure they would both be fine choices.

I double sleeve with dragon shields for my Magic decks but another brand I came across when sleeving my yugioh deck was KMC... I used Matt red KMC sleeves and perfect fits on some magic decks too just to see if it had something to do with the card size but I thought they were super easy to sleeve up the cards as well as have a really nice feel/shuffle to them.

I know KMC used to make some of the best sleeves you could buy but they changed the formula or something and people say they aren’t near as good now. Now this is all just from watching reviews/hear say because I’ve personally never used them.

I’ve always used Dragon Shield Mattes, just tried out Katanas. I haven’t actually played with them but while sitting around shuffling and gold fishing I’ve noticed the cards start coming almost out of the sleeve, like right to the edge before I have to push them back down.

For single sleeving im honestly not sure if KMC would fair any better than your katanas because i have only ever double sleeved with them...

I Have single sleeved with Dragon shields though and have never had an issue with cards slipping out.

My complaints about Dragons shields is to double sleeve them they are a PAIN because they are so ridiculously form fitting and its really tough to get them into the sleeves without partially unsleeving the inner sleeve... its a maddening process...

I have bought my KMC sleeves through TCGPlayer a few times over the last year (so i cant really say anything about a formula) but the KMC brand perfect fits with the KMC Matt sleeves ive used sleeve up really nicely and honesty have a better feel to them as i shuffle and play with them than my dragon shield ones.... and i havent noticed them move around in the sleeves.

Honestly (and without using either), I would go for the Legion Dragon Hide Vault simply because there are cutouts on both sides making it easier to get the deck out of the box. Especially if you move to double sleeving.

I am personally running the Ultimate Guard Arkhive 400+ which is good because it holds 4 decks' worth of cards and you can easily get a hold of them. I bought a pack of Ultra Pro Hard Top Loader sleeves and have jammed one of these between each of the decks.

I typically will run about 4 decks at any one point in time so I have found this works well. I also like to carry a few "option" cards - stuff I am considering swapping in or out and the ArkHive holds 4x doubled sleeved decks plus about 20-30 more single sleeved cards.

If you're looking to eventually put togetehr more than 2 decks, this could eb a good option and you could stash your dice/tokens in the spare space for now.

EDIT on my previous comment - just realised that the Ultimate Guard trays don't engulf the cards completely. If that's the case, I would actually change my opinion to the buying the Ultiamte Guard box (over the Legion one) as the removable trays are nice and the finish on the Ultimate Guard box looks better.

Yeah the UG leaves the cards sticking out enough to grab the deck I’m pretty sure.

I do agree the UG finish is nicer, I’m not too fond of the dragon hide on the legion.

Another thing I was considering is the UG looks like it would take up way less table space when getting my deck out and arranging my stuff on my mat.

The Arkhive does look super nice, one thing I like about it is that you can put 4 UG Boulder 100+ deck boxes inside it. I don’t plan on building a third deck anytime soon but then again I wasn’t planning on building a second a few days ago. Lol

Mcat1999: You deserved to be beaten for that comment. We used to play with a guy who had a beta Savannah in single sleeve (and these were really crappy sleeves). He also had a bunch of SDCC Black Planeswalkers just sitting loose in his deckbox rattling around and getting damaged on the edges. All of us would shudder at how badly his cards were being treated.

Hear me out, personally I use this: https://www.bing.com/search?q=bluetech%20card%20box&qs=n&form=QBRE&pc=MOZB&sp=-1&pq=bluetech%20card%20bo&sc=0-16&sk=&cvid=D004787048784D16AA4DDB68A4378253 There are also soft cases for cards against humanity that work really well also. The zippers give out eventually but they offer good storage for multiple decks, a place to store commanders in a mesh zipper area and with the spacers dice can be held on then easily as well.

I would suggest going with the Ultimate Guard over the Legion as well. Fair or not, I have had poor experience with Legion products.

I own the double Ultimate Guard box and have been very happy with it. So my vote would be for the UG case.

For lots of decks I use the Quiver Card Case. I have also been very happy with these cases. Very durable and resistant to getting banged or bumped. Water/Drinks just wipe right off the case, nice snug for the decks, adaptable spaces that velcro to the sides. The netting in the lid is not great though, things slide around and can fall out. That definitely needs some type of closure. I use a couple velcro strips for those.

I have been using the Ultimate Guard Twin 200 for a long time now and i love it,

Dragon shield mattes are thick and i have had trouble fitting them in tighter boxes,

the 200 holds a KMC double sleeved 100 card deck perfectly.

That’s what I ended up going with, and I really like it. Holds my two single sleeved decks +tokens and dice.
