With FNM on the Mind...

Deck Help forum

So I am turning my focus to FNM tonight, and I have 2 decks at the ready in which I could play. I am unsure as to which deck to run. My local meta is filled with an assortment of deck types. Mostly U/W control, R/G monsters, and an assortment of aggro decks are being played with the occasional random deck thrown into the mix. I would like to get some feedback as to which deck I should play. I have an Esper control deck and a R/W aggro deck (Linking the decks on here for some reason isn't working, see my page for "Bros Are Mad, Mkay" and "If Goblins and Monks Had Babies"). Any thought on the matter? And also, any help for these decks is recommended and welcomed. Thanks.

The R/W Aggro deck is a lot better against a metagame like that- That Esper control list is a pretty sweet idea, but it's very difficult to make the mana work, and there are also some very difficult matchups for it. Meanwhile, the R/W Aggro deck you have is consistent and fast, and it is also good against a variety of strategies.

I'm sure that your Esper control list would be pretty good against a field of Abzan midrange or something similar, but aggro's just too much of a beating.

Yeah, run the aggro deck. I have to say though, R/G monsters was a nightmare when I ran my mono-red list, Sooo... Yep. I haven't tested it with the other deck though. And U/W/B control seems a little difficult with the current mana in standard. R/W all the way!(it's also my favorite 2 colors, so I am a little biased.)

My Esper deck came in 3rd last week in a lineup of 24. The only two that were above me and my only loss came to U/W control.

That's actually pretty good. Well, honestly, I would say go with your gut. Either option would work well, I would think.

Shards do have a hard time playing control in this environment. Having access to 2 different fetches is nice, especially for delving, but having lots of basics means you'll have a hard time meeting all the color requirements for staples like Dissolve, Hero's Downfall, and End Hostilities. The fact that you feel inclined to run Mana Confluence to stay on-curve is a testament to that, and is a sharp contrast to Dimir, which runs Radiant Fountain.

Long story short, RW is better positioned right now.
