So, what do you think of this evil guy? I shaped it for an Infect deck (more or less just like they did with Nissa for the Elves deck.) It's not too overpowered, is it? Well, it's strong, it has to be since it is a Planeswalker. But... is it quite balanced or....?

His -1 is way too overpowered. Effects like that are why Ancestral Recall is banned in all formats bar Vintage. Maybe if it was Tap a creature with infect: Draw a card, rather than draw 3 cards.

If the token generated by the -1 drew a single card, or was a -3 instead, it would be more balanced.

Additionally, the amount of "elves" required to activate it feels like it's not enough to justify it, but then again, it is a -7 from a starting point of 4, so I guess that's passable.

Also, when considering a planeswalker around a certain mechanic, remember that each ability doesn't have to involve the mechanic itself. Instead, the Ultimate could synnergise with Infect, as in:

-8 You get an emblem with "Creatures you control get +2/+0 and are unblockable"

The Ultimate you have right now is kind of lackluster and underwhelming, seeing as though those creatures don't have haste (Being a GB planeswalker, haste is kind of out of their territory anyway) and next turn it's not an almost guaranteed win.

Allright, thanks. It requires Elves cause it spawns Elf Warrior tokens with the +1, I think everyone got it.

Is there a way to edit it or do I have to create a new one?

What about:

+1 _ Put a 1/1 Green and Black Elf Warrior creature token with Infect onto the battlefield.

-2 _ Until the end of the turn, creatures you control get Trample and First Strike.

-9 _ You get an emblem with "Creatures you control get +3/+0 and are unblockable."

Have you considered changing elves to insects? Elves have a lot of support already, and we've seen infect tokens that were insects when we saw Phyrexian Swarmlord

Posted picture for others but yeah I agree with Ringleader about the tokens I think that making it produce an existing token gives it better flavor to the infect theme. I am kind of distraught by the fact it only interacts via tokens though. I think using some of the existing abilities all tied up into one planeswalker would be better. I think the abilities should be as follows.

+1: Put a 1/1 green Insect creature token with infect onto the battlefield.

-2: Return a creature card with infect from your graveyard to your hand.

-5: You get an emblem that says "Whenever you cast a creature spell with infect, target player gets a poison counter."

The reason I like these is because the +1 is like Carrion Call , the -2 is a Corpse Cur effect, and the -5 is an emblem of Hand of the Praetors . The best starting loyalty I think is 4 to keep it viable and able to use the minus twice if you want to. But I like the cost of 3GB much more.

The draw effect doesn't seem to fit with the theme. Also, it's pretty broken. I'd change it to draw one card and make it infect creatures you control.

Elves don't really seem to work. insects, rats, bats, zombies, etc. seem to fit the infect theme better, and with it being G/B i'd say Zombies or Insects.

The ult makes him to reliant on his own tokens, I'd change that too.

What about Nokho?

It could be useful not only for infect, but for other ability-based decks as well.

rolandolisi, I really feel like that guy should have black in his mana cost.... just saying. Also his 2 minus abilities feel too similar...

randomguy123 says... #12

The -1 ability is ridiculously broken, anyone remember Ancestral Recall . Its worth so much for a reason.

Dallie says... #13

The manacost prohibits play I'd say.

A card like this would never be printed. Not because it's overpowered, but because it is far too narrow. You can have the planeswalker interact well with infect, but making all the abilities only work in an infect deck make it unprintable. Out of interest, do you have an infect deck that this card would fit into?

August 19, 2013 2:10 p.m.

rolandolisi says... #15

Yup, I do. I'm sad that there's not any Planeswalker that would work good with an Infect deck.

August 19, 2013 2:45 p.m.

PotatoPi says... #16

But from a design standpoint, it would be better if the card had synergy with infect, but wasn't useless in any other deck.

August 19, 2013 2:49 p.m.

rolandolisi says... #17

And what about Nissa Revane? She's useful in Elf decks, but in other decks she's completely useless.

Anyway, this is the walker.

August 20, 2013 2:27 a.m.

Dallie says... #18

@rolandolisi: That is a very wordy planeswalker. The -1 seems underwhelming, and the +1 is complex.

August 20, 2013 3:05 a.m.

PotatoPi says... #19

But elves is a much less narrow archetype than infect. And I agree with Dallie, that new 'walker seems very wordy, I presume because you still want a very tight synergy with infect.

Here it is. Well, the +1 is just like Carrion Call and Phyrexian Swarmlord while the -1 and -7 are good in other decks as well, even though they're better in an Infect.Well, it's made for Infect, it's obvious that it works better with infect.

I noticed now that I forgot one B/G mana, but I don't want to reupload the image.

August 20, 2013 5:54 a.m.

PotatoPi says... #21

To be honest, I see no real point to this card, as a good infect deck should have won or be very close to winning by turn 4.

August 20, 2013 12:43 p.m.

Dallie says... #22

@rolandolisi: Both Carrion Call and Phyrexian Swarmlord see no play in infect decks, so modeling a Planeswalker after those cards is probably not a good idea.

As PotatoPi said; Infect is just way too fast for a Planeswalker.

rolandolisi says... #23

I usually win between turn 6 and 7.... once I won on turn 2 as well, but...

August 20, 2013 1:20 p.m.

Cdawg44 says... #24

rolandolisi made a very good point about Nissa Revane , but it's also the reason Nissa Revane doesn't see a ton of play, even in EDH and such.

August 20, 2013 3:08 p.m.

PotatoPi says... #25

@rolandolisi, then your infect deck is awful if it wins turn 6-7.

B/G B/G

Lokoldra, The Plague Witch

Planeswalker

+1 Target creature gets +3/+1 until end of turn.

-1 Target creature is unblockable until end of turn.

-4 All creatures you control gain +2/+0 and are unblockable until end of turn.

Starts with 2 Loyalty Counters.

Femme_Fatale says... #27

Maybe make the -1 to a 0

or perhaps the -4 to a -3 and instead of +2/+0, it is +1/+0.
