List of EDH Staples and Power Cards
Commander (EDH) forum

I compiled a few different lists here. The first is just a list of all EDH staples and power cards, and the second is a list of the budget-friendly staples and power cards. For the budget list, I'd like to keep the cards below (or at least around) $5 USD.
This is a community project, so feel free to suggest cards or discuss inclusions!

I think that, while suboptimal, the mirage fetches should be put on the budget list. I run them in every list I own in paper.
Grasslands , Flood Plain , etc.

@thataddkid: I would have already stickied it, but the administrative interface for thread management is currently down.

This is brilliant. It even leads to the eventual move of breaking them down by color.Maybe make a separate account dedicated to having these lists and these lists alone. Name it "CommanderCache" or something and have all the decks be like;"Staples and Power Cards - Blue" and "Budget Staples and Power Cards - Gruul"
People can just search the user, and boom, all of the lists nice and tightly!

Monoxidechild, there is already an option to arrange them by color. If you wanted R/G staples for instance, you look in red, green, and multicolored. Since each color can have different archetypes you're going to be picking out only a few of each color.

thataddkid, true, but then you lose the sorting between card type. I'd rather just click the color wheel to highlight the cards at that point. I still think this is a great idea, just brain storming ideas to make it more effective/efficient.

It's interesting that there's a fairly even distribution of colours in both the budget and non-budget group.

I also bumped into this list the other day The Best of Budget Commander/EDH by andydw that I felt was a solid list for EDHers on a budget.

@Epochalyptik Do you think you could also make a list of some of the best commanders, and maybe in the description, talk about how they could best be used for competitive play?

Here are some primers about different commanders -

@Narwek: It might be doable. That would be an enormous project if I had to give primers, though.

I've been thinking about writing a primer for my deck for a while but a). I feel like no-one would read it (as it is I think my deck description is too long) and b) you can't do the handy little show / hide buttons that they have on MTGSalvation =( - which means you can't hide massive walls of text.
Also I suppose a primer for a toolbox / combo deck is pretty boring. But still... I'd love to write a piece about how my Teneb deck started off really bad and then I becmae determined to make it fast and streamlined.

I think you might actually be able to pull off show/hide boxes, but they aren't anywhere near as straightforward as those on MTGS. You'd need to do some HTML experimentation.
I have a brief primer on Dominus - Dreamcrusher Edition, but I leave the main primer for the MTGS thread. I find that combo decks - especially combo-control decks - generally need primers more than most other archetypes simply because of their complexity. It's always nice to see progression in a deck's history, though.

@Epochalyptik I don't mean a huge description, I was talking about a few words, maybe a sentance at longest. For example, Damia, Sage of Stone would say control, and Kaalia of the Vast would say demon, dragon, and angel tribal
December 4, 2013 7:43 p.m.
Damia, Sage of Stone should actually say control/combo

Well, Damia, Sage of Stone caters to a wide variety of playstyles. It's a general utility engine rather than a devoted combo/control card (although I happen to run it in a combo/control deck).

That's just what I thought it worked best with, though I guess it works well in decks that are more creature heavy, and empty their hands quickly

I would be cool if we could have an entire section of the site (much like deckbuilder, draft sim, etc.) just for primers. Submissions could be sent by the users to someone in the T/O administration, who would then judge its worthiness and decide whether to include the primer. It could be limited to one primer per deck type (to limit low quality material) and organized in the same the deckbuilder is, but without deckcycling.
Just a little idea I've been tossing around for a while.

What about Oubliette ? It gives aura removal to black, not an overly overpowered card, but it has its merits. Sort of a Journey to Nowhere for black, with an added affect that requires a little more mana fixing.
December 8, 2013 2:41 a.m.
Ummm... Oubliette 's ability is even worse that than Journey to Nowhere 's, even ignoring the casting cost. Both get rid of auras (when journey exiles, the auras "fall off"), but when Oubliette is destroyed, the auras come back.

I posted what I thought of off the top of my head on the decklist for the budget one.
I'd also recommend making this a sticky or a featured article to make it seen.
