Pack 2, Pick 4 —June 2, 2014

Noble Quarry

Pretty sure it's Noble Quarry , not close. Significantly better green card than Aspect of Hydra (again, consistency over potential) and the only other card that competes is Retraction Helix . Given that we know for sure we're playing Xenagos, God of Revels but we could conceivably give up on blue, I'd rather take a green card of similar power level to a blue one.

Idk, I like Pharagax Giant because Xenagos makes the choice extremely difficult. Normally most people would allow the +1/+1 counters to be put on the Giant, but having a 10/10 haste makes it tough.

Plus it's a decent creature on its own.

I would agree about taking the Quarry now, but I really hope that giant tables back to us (even though I doubt it will). But it is a common, so another one might come our way as well.

I like the noble. It gets all other creatures through right away, as you can give it haste with the God.

The giant seems good, it is either a lava axe with a 3/3 body or you get a 5/5. If we are ahead on the board, deciding on the tribute is already a difficult decision to make, and having the God is less significant. However, if you're behind on the board, this card is absolute awful. You're playing a 3/3 for 5 and your opponent isn't caring about taking 5 damage, they're just thinking of an easy way to push through any defenses you set up. It's a creature an opponent can choose to weaken without costing themselves tempo, and we are passing a lot of tempo cards. This is generally not a card you want to draft.

As Rousseaus said, aspect of hydra is only a potential card, and it depends entirely on your board state, and will rarely give you more than G's worth of pump. Probably like +1/+1 or +2/+2 most of the time. It isn't unplayable but we need more grren in our deck first. We want something like mortal's resolve; it is much better and only costs 1 more.

+1 Noble Quarry

Evenly split on the Giant and Quarry. If I need to make a tiebreaker vote later tonight after work, then I will.

So I was playing some sealed league at my LGS tonight and a guy had Noble Quarry and it was a back breaker! He either put it on his biggest creature and essentially wiped my board, or he'd put it on some little creature and swung for large amounts of life while everything had to block the little guy. Then the next turn I had to block the unicorn while it happened again. That card did some major work. It's VERY good.

I like its upward potential versus the consistency of the giant ;)

I have not gone rogue, there has been delay until Sunday/Monday MIDNIGHT. I don't know what extra there is to discuss here but we have the time for it.

I think it'd be interesting to hear what our Glorious Leader thinks of the picks available when we get packs btw, just saying.
