Strixhaven Update —May 4, 2021

Out: Day's Undoing In: Devastating Mastery

Devastating Mastery is a new board wipe that can be played politically that does not hit lands. It has been a bit since I've added any new cards to this deck and I am very excited to test this out.

Day's Undoing really never put me in a good position. I mostly fueled my opponent's hands and ended up on the back step. This is why I'm removing this.

Don't forget to consider Sea Gate Restoration  Flip!

I did not see anyone correct the Mirrorweave statement yet, so I will be the bearer of bad news.

Mirrorweave is not a board wipe, even with Noyan Dar. When something becomes a copy of an animated land, it simply becomes a copy of the card that is targeted. So if you target a Island that has become a 0/0 elemental with 3 counters, all the other creatures will become an Island.

It is pretty unintuitive, but your first reading of the card was correct.

"When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original object’s characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode, targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The “copiable values” are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by its face- down status, and by “as . . . enters the battlefield” and “as . . . is turned face up” abilities that set power and toughness (and may also set additional characteristics). Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied."

Basicpract You're totally correct! Mirrorweave does not actually do this. Thank you for pointing this out. This was a card suggested to me and I didn't even question the ruling. Greatly appreciated. Now we've got a slot open to make a change. It is likely going to be adding Sea Gate Restoration  Flip.

I would without a shadow of a doubt recommend Drannith Magistrate as it's the greatest hate bear you can run and delays a lot of strategies.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how does To Arms! function in this deck and how is it good? Also, big fan of the deck, looking to build it myself.

Shcooduloo If you control Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper and cast To Arms! you will trigger Noyan Dar and can animate a land into a creature. Then when To Arms! resolves you will untap all creatures. Since the land is a creature, you will untap that land. If you've been able to animate a bunch of lands, you will untap all of them. It's a risky play but can work out in your favor.

Could this deck benefit from something like Trail of Evidence. I find myself running out of cards as the game goes on plus you hold up mana anyway for responses. I was looking for a Whirlwind of Thought-like effect in azorious colors and this was the closest I could find.
