Self-Inflicted Wound —Aug. 24, 2015

Abzan Aggro with Hangarback Walker is new annoying deck in standard. Self-Inflicted Wound is a great sideboard card vs this deck. Unless all the Abzan player has on the battlefield is a Walker then Wound is a guaranteed removal spell. Wound plays around Walker too because your opponent can't sacrifice a Walker to a Wound. Wound also gets around Rakshasa Deathdealer regeneration if they are still playing Deathdealer and Fleecemane Lion hexproof/indestructible which are big bonuses. Wound kills all creatures in Abzan Aggro except Walker.

One draw back of Wound is it doesn't target so your opponent chooses what creature he or she sacrifices, this can sometimes be problematic because you want to kill the Siege Rhino, but your opponent sacs a Fleecemane Lion or Anafenza, the Foremost instead. Because of this you can't just rely on Wound as your only removal spell vs Abzan.

I have been very impressed with Self-Inflicted Wound vs Abzan Aggro and other Abzan decks that I am playing 2-3x Wound in the sideboard.
