Some Thoughts —May 21, 2019

Most of the time I whiff is because of an unexpected removal spell or tapping myself out getting excited on figuring out how to remove slumber counters as quickly as possible, I end up losing steam very quickly. This is mostly because of how I play it but partly because of the lack of intentional card draw; I run out of things to do quickly and end up top decking. I've been throwing around the idea of some other cards to pick up along the way: Future Sight will literally increase my topdecking ability to it's maximum. After tooling around with Bolas's Citadel in my thallid deck (of all things! Thallids!) I've found new respect for being able to play the top card, repeatedly.

Boundless Realms and similar spells that go get me lots of lands in play at once also seem to be a good idea as I can certainly benefit from the massive ramp the following turn as well as get that first slumber counter off of Arixmethes in a really big way on turn 5 with 7 mana if I've hit every land drop, earlier with Sol Ring although it lessens it's effect; it has a significant byproduct of thinning out the lands into play where if I do run something like Future Sight will let me hit less lands off the top when I can cast willy nilly.

I only have one of a lot of integral cards like Paradox Engine and Sensei's Divining Top that are being used in other decks so I'm pretty hard pressed to find alternatives until I either find other copies or just decide to move them back and forth between decks.
