Pretty sweet so far, but needs work. —Jan. 24, 2015

Only went 2-3, but I mostly like the way the deck feels. When I get any kind of workable draw that is, mulled away 4 no-land hands and a least 2 1-land hands which is some pretty BS luck.

2 good matches against Temur, won 1 and lost 1. Then a bye. 4th round I got steamrolled by a mono-white prowess aggro deck. Highlight of the night was a match against UB control in the 5th round. Lost, but it was a great match.

Takeaways:

  • First off, Nyx Weaver is no replacement for Courser of Kruphix. IDK what I was thinking. Sure it synergizes well with Sidisi, but this isn't close.
  • Soulflayer feels like a good addition to the deck. Hard to argue with a potential 4/4 Flying, Trample, Hexproof for 2-4 mana.
  • Torrent Elemental was every bit the bomb I expected and more. Tapping blockers down for easy damage and being amazing with Soulflayer was expected. But he's also amazing in the control matchup since bringing him in from exile can't be countered.
  • On the other hand, Tasigur, the Golden Fang was thouroughly underwhelming. The most useful thing he did all night was delve away 2 Torrent Elementals so I could put them into play. He's staying for now because I feel like he should be much better than that.
  • Considering running Silumgar, the Drifting Death instead of Sagu Mauler. Flying vs Trample, shrinking creatures vs higher power. Can't decide.
  • Sideboard was geared too much toward creature decks. Not enough that works against slower control matchups. Reworked a bit.
