Cut Your Losses

Sorcery

Casualty 2 (As you cast this spell, you may sacrifice a creature with power 2 or greater. When you do, copy this spell and you may choose a new target for the copy.)

Target player mills half their library, rounded down. (They put those cards from the top of their library into their graveyard.)

From the looks of this deck you've done a good job with mana efficiency.

Also, its important to remember the color identity rule. I'm a little spotty on multi-colored lands, but Nihil Spellbomb and Simic Locket could be seen as a violation of the rule.

With Bruvac as your commander, redundancy in instant win plays is important. Which is why I recommend adding Cut Your Losses and Fleet Swallower.

You've done good putting in cards that mill each opponent. This will help get around spells and abilities that give your opponents hexproof. With all the draw spells, may I recommend adding Psychic Corrosion? This will mill each opponent as you draw. In fact, if you add Jace's Archivist it will not only feed into Psychic Corrosion, but Fraying Sanity as well. In which case you may also want to consider adding Mystic Redaction to your deck.

Also, with your desire for Counter spells, you may want to look for spots for Countermand, Didn't Say Please, and Thought Collapse. While you cannot counter a card like Carnage Tyrant, you can still target the spell and force the spell's controller to mill.

At this stage keep Into the Roil in your deck for as long as you can. Outside of counter spells, this will be your best defense against Wheel of Sun and Moon. May I also suggest Nevinyrral's Disk? Not only is it another way to deal with Wheel of Sun and Moon, but also serves as a board wipe.

Also, I'd highly recommend Drowned Secrets since you're running a mono blue deck.

If at some point you choose to shift some of your deck towards more creatures, may I recommend Persistent Petitioners? With Bruvac also being an advisor, you can give him something to do other than sit around and be a target. And at 3 toughness, each copy can buy you some time against a battlefield of 4/4 tramplers. It would also give you the added bonus of giving your commander some protection from spells that would cause it to goad.

I hope this helps. Thank you for reading me out. Happy Hunting!

GodzSoldier, I'll definitely try Cut Your Losses. Seems like a fun way to get a lot of value. Thanks for the suggestion!

Also, have you tried Chainer, Dementia Master? Your deck has a low density of nightmares and he creates nightmares (and therefore mill) while giving you a mill payoff.

Made_Compleat Thanks! Yeah, in terms of exiling I find them way faster at growing umbris than most other affects. Plus most of them replace themselves, which in a deck that doesn't have card advantage in the command zone, is pretty valuable. I had a look at your deck as well. Since you're more creature focused, I was thinking maybe take a look at Cut Your Losses or Disciple of Bolas!

Bribery could be replaced by The Scarab God with the amount of mill you have in the deck :)

Also, Darksteel Plate --> Commander's Plate

And don't forget Cut Your Losses and maybe Bruvac the Grandiloquent?

Try adding more tribal cards like Kindred Discovery, Vanquisher's Banner, or Coat of Arms. Or if the theme is mill try adding cards like Cut Your Losses and Fleet Swallower

Cut Your Losses might be good in this deck as well as Fleet Swallower

Some thoughts:

  • Cut Your Losses, Mind Funeral and Fraying Sanity are all really bad mill cards, and I'd suggest using better ones. Cut Your Losses just costs too much mana, and by the time you're on turn 6 the game should already be over, and this spell doesn't help actually end the game. Mind Funeral is just too unreliable for its mana cost and generally doesn't get a good-enough return for its cost. Fraying Sanity is a trap card in that the first copy is semi-playable, but drawing the second copy often leads to you losing the game... it plays a LOT weaker than it reads. I'd suggest considering better mill cards like Fractured Sanity, Glimpse the Unthinkable, and Tasha's Hideous Laughter.

  • I'd suggest considering Extirpate or the more expensive Surgical Extraction. These cards are pretty important for mill by being able to strip key-pieces from your opponents deck, taking away their ability to effectively combat you, as well as dealing with problem cards that might shuffle back into the opponents library.

  • While Fog Bank is a decent defender, it doesn't really help you win the game, as it often only buys you one extra turn, and playing it will usually cost you a turn. I'd suggest instead running mills premier creatures in Ruin Crab and/or Hedron Crab
