Would the ability from Hushwing Gryff cancel an ability of a creature coming into play.(example: Leveler)

Asked by KuneTao 5 years ago

Seems that it would but there has been some debate in my group.

Please link all cards in your question using double brackets.

Hushwing Gryff

Leveler

Yes, Hushwing Gryff says that creatures entering the battlefield don't cause abilities to trigger. This includes the ETB triggers on those creatures.

To be clear: triggered abilities always start with one of the words "when", "whenever", or "at", followed by a description of what kind of event will trigger it. This is the kind of ability that Hushwing Gryff affects. Leveler's ability is a triggered ability and it's triggered by a creature (specifically, Leveler itself) entering the battlefield, meaning it won't trigger if Hushwing Gryff is around when Leveler enters the battlefield.

In the future, please remember to hit the "Mark as Answer" button once your question has been resolved. This helps keep the Rules Q&A section clutter-free and helps future users with the same question quickly identify the correct answer.

I have gone ahead and marked an answer as accepted on your behalf; if you could do so in the future, that would be appreciated.
