will a forced discard trigger Lotleth Troll's ability?

My friend plays a really annoying discard deck so I built a deck that includes lotleth troll. When he drops Ravenous Rats can choose a creature card and put a counter on Lotleth Troll?

No. Lotleth Troll's ability is an activated ability. To activate it, you must announce it and pay its cost. You can't use an action mandated by another effect to satisfy the cost payment of an activated ability.

I kinda thought that, but wasn't sure. Thank you for clarfication. Room for 4 different cards now. I'm basically trying to fight annoying with annoying.

I actually do have 4 Loxodon Smiter's, 4 Brain Gorgers, and 4 Basking Rootwallas. I'm thinking that should be pretty annoying.

And I'm definitely picking up 4 Obstinate Baloths. Those will be an awesome addition to this deck! Thanks for the suggestion.
