Wild copies

Asked by fireflamedark 8 years ago

When the ability for Essence of the Wild makes a creature you summon become a copy of itself, does it make non-token creatures into tokens? It's a weird question, but I just want to be sure of the interactions since I'm trying to see how well it partners with Feed the Pack.

The copies do not become tokens. They are still cards you just replace most/all of their characteristics with the characteristics of Essence of the Wild

No, they are not made into tokens, in much the same way that Clone is not a token of the copied creature. The creatures are still their respective cards, they just happen to be copied into something else. Being a token or a card is not a trait that is copied, so it is retained.

So with Feed the Pack and Essence of the Wild on the field, any non-token creature you play would be a Essence of the Wild, which could be eaten with Feed the Pack to make six more Essence of the Wild, these ones will however be tokens that can't be feed to Feed the Pack.

Tokens and cards are entirely different kinds of objects; nothing can ever be both or go from being one to the other.
