Whip of Erebos and exiling

Asked by TheMagi 10 years ago

If I were to whip in a creature from the graveyard and then bounce it with Cloudshift or Venser, the Sojourner, would I then be able to return the card to play or would it stay exiled?

No, the delayed trigger of whip will still trigger in your end step.

When an object changes zones, it becomes an entirely new object with no connection to its previous iterations.

You can blink the creature because Whip of Erebos 's replacement effect only kicks in if the creature would go to a zone other than exile.

When the creature returns, it will be a new object that is no longer connected to Whip of Erebos 's delayed triggered ability. Therefore, it will remain on the battlefield indefinitely.

This is the same reason that Obzedat, Ghost Council is a great target for the Whip's ability. You can stack the triggers so that Ghost Dad's exile ability will trigger first, leaving the Whip's ability with no creature to exile.
