The Moon Sage Ultimate

Asked by Phoenix-22 6 years ago

I had a horribly wicked thought, and I must be brought back to earth. Here is the ruling for the ultimate/emblem:

5/1/2012 : Cards that are put into your graveyard can be returned to your hand by the emblems ability even if they were never in your hand.

Now the way I read it, it means any card returns to your hand regardless of how it got to the graveyard. So Traumatize becomes an awesome draw spell. Vindicate becomes the ultimate board wipe if you have the mana to cast it. A spell, once resolved, goes to the graveyard as a state based effect, just like mill or discard effects. If that's correct, cast spells should return.

Someone please tell me I am wrong. Terrible things could happen to my playgroup otherwise.

The only thing you are wrong about is that cards go to the grave yard as the final part of their resolution, not as a "state based effect" (which isn't a thing btw, you may be thinking of state-based actions).

That's right. The reason the game uses the word "return" for effects like this is because 99.9% of the time, a card in your graveyard would have been in your hand at some point earlier in the game. It doesn't mean the card is required to have been in your hand.
