Spell Queller and Stasis Snare

Asked by Argy 7 years ago

I'll explain the following steps in a match and how I think these should have happened.

  1. I played Knight of the White Orchid
  2. Opponent Exiled Knight of the White Orchid with a Flashed in Spell Queller
  3. I Flashed in Stasis Snare Exiling Spell Queller
  4. Later in the game my Opponent got rid of Stasis Snare with Dromoka's Command

Now, I believe I get Knight of the White Orchid back as soon as I play my Stasis Snare, and that it can't be snafooed again by Spell Queller unless the Knight is on the stack when the Queller is played.

Am I right?

If you do it right you are correct, although there is a way for you to screw yourself over.

You play Knight of the White Orchid

Your opponent plays Spell Queller and we'll assume it resolves since the rest of the interaction is based on it being in play.

The Spell Queller ETB goes on the stack.

Here is where you can screw yourself. If you respond right away your Knight of the White Orchid gets exiled permanently since the LTB will go on the stack above the ETB returning nothing and then the Knight will be exiled. If you let the ETB resolve then you Stasis Snare it you will get the knight back and it will subsequently resolve.

When your Stasis Snare is destroyed and the Spell Queller comes back in your opponent will have to choose a new target for the ETB that is a spell with CMC 4 or less. Spells only exist on the stack, cards in play are permanents and so can not be targeted by the etb.
