Soulherder in Multiplayer

Asked by SynergyBuild 4 years ago

With many game states in multiplayer magic, when a player has an effect like Banishing Light or Banisher Priest exiling an opponents card, then that player dies, however the game isn't over, I was told that all of their cards get exiled, so since the Banishing Light styled effect 'left the battlefield,' the card would return.

If this is true, when a player has Soulherder , and an opponent that controls creatures would leave the game, would a bunch of counters be put on Soul Herder?

There are some situations where a Soulherder would get +1/+1 counters after a player leaves the game, but it usually won't get anything.

This is what happens when a player leaves a multiplayer game:

  1. All objects owned by that player leave the game (this is different from being exiled)
  2. Any effects giving that player control of objects they don't own end
  3. If they somehow still control any other objects, those objects get exiled

So for example: if the player used Bribery to get a creature from someone else's library, it won't be removed in step 1 above and won't be given back to anyone in step 2, so it will get exiled in step 3. Soulherder will get a counter for that, but not for anything that left the game in step 1.
