Reality Scramble shenanigans

Asked by ulysses2009 4 years ago

If I want to play Reality Scramble from the graveyard by discarding a land while having Mirrorwing Dragon , Archfiend of Ifnir and Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons on the battlefield (targeting Mirrorwing Dragon ), what would happen?

Mirrorwing Dragon will make copies of Reality Scramble as it is the only target.

Archfiend of Ifnir will distribute -1/-1 counters what will trigger my Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons to create some snakes.

Will the snakes be in play before Mirrorwing Dragon 's effect happens, so that i get a copy of the spell for every snake i created?

When multiple triggers have happened since the last time a player had priority the controllers put them in the stack in active player, non-active player (APNAP) order. If a single player controls more than one trigger they get to decide what order to put them on the stack and then they resolve in first in last out (FILO) order. So you get to decide what order the triggers go on the stack.

In this scenario casting Reality Scramble via retracing it will trigger Mirrorwing Dragon and Archfiend of Ifnir .

If you put the Archfiend trigger on the stack first Mirrorwing Dragon will resolve first (because of FILO ordering) making copies of Reality Scramble . You will make 2 copies and they will go on the stack above the -1/-1 counter ability. They will resolve first and Archfiend of Ifnir and Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons will not be on the battlefield when the counters are placed and you will not get snakes.

If you put the Dragon ability on the stack first the -1/-1 counters will be placed first. Hapatra will trigger off of the counters getting placed and her trigger(s) will go on the stack above the copy ability. Because of objects resolving FILO, the snakes will be created before the copy ability resolves and there will be a copy made for each snake.

TL;DR: Depending on how you order the triggers you will either get a copy for each snake or you will never have made snakes at all.
