If a card like Quicksilver Amulet or Muzzio puts Hangarback Walker onto the battlefield, does it die?

Asked by Carth 6 years ago

If I play Muzzio, use his ability, and put Hangarback Waller onto the battlefield, will he die? Also, can I pay for him like intet and banefire?

Hangarback Walker will die if it is put onto the battlefield by Quicksilver Amulet or Muzzio's ability. It will enter with a toughness of 0 and die due to state based actions unless there is some anthem effect like Chief of the Foundry to pump its toughness.

You can cast both Hangarback Walker and Banefire with Intet's ability, but since you are casting it without paying the mana cost, X will always be considered 0. There is no way around that. So Hangarback Walker will enter with 0 counters, and unless there is some sort of anthem effect will die due to state based actions. Banefire will do 0 damage to whatever you target.

Please link all cards in your question; it makes it easier for people to understand what you're asking and answer you.
Quicksilver Amulet
Hangarback Walker
Muzzio, Visionary Architect
Intet, the Dreamer
Banefire

The only way to declare an X value for a card with in its mana cost is if you pay the mana cost to cast that spell. If you put the card directly onto the battlefield, you never cast it, so you can't declare a value for X. If you cast it without paying its mana cost, you're paying an alternate cost ("without paying its mana cost" is an alternate cost) that doesn't contain any to declare.
