How does Engulfing Slagwurm work in combat?

When Engulfing Slagwurm blocks or becomes blocked in combat, does it get dealt any combat damage, or does it instantly destroy the enemy creature beforehand?
Would Engulfing Slagwurm survive being blocked by Sedge Scorpion and Terra Stomper?

1/1/2011: Engulfing Slagwurm's ability triggers and resolves during the declare blockers step. Creatures destroyed this way will not deal combat damage.

Yes, as soon as blockers are declared, the wurms ability triggers and resolves before damage is dealt.
