Hazoret's Favor on Vehicles

Asked by EsperHanuman 6 years ago

If I select my Cultivator's Caravan which currently a creature as target of Hazoret's Favor ability, should the vehicle sacrificed at next end step although it is no longer a creature? Thanks

Your Cultivator's Caravan will most likely still be a creature, as a crew ability wears off during the cleanup step which is after the end step.

However, assuming your Cultivator's Caravan is a creature because it's enchanted with Siege Modification, you target it with the ability of Hazoret's Favor, and then your opponent casts Appetite for the Unnatural targeting the Siege Modification (during combat, not in response), then you will still have to sacrifice Cultivator's Caravan at the beginning of your next end step, because the ability doesn't care if the creature stays a creature. If they cast Appetite for the Unnatural in response to the ability, it will cause the ability to be countered due to a lack of a legal target, so the delayed trigger ability that causes the sacrifice will never be created.

Cultivator's Caravan would be sacrificed. The key words are "end of turn" and "beginning of the next end step".

512 Ending Phase

512.1 The ending phase consists of two steps: end and cleanup.

513 End Step

513.1a Previously, abilities that triggered at the beginning of the end step were printed with the trigger condition at end of turn. Cards that were printed with that text have received errata in the Oracle card reference to say at the beginning of the end step or at the beginning of the next end step.

514 Cleanup Step

514.2 Second, the following actions happen simultaneously: all damage marked on permanents (including phased-out permanents) is removed and all until end of turn and this turn effects end. This turn-based action doesnt use the stack.

So the beginning of the next end step happens before end of turn so the Cultivator's Caravan would still be a creature when the Hazoret's Favor ability triggers and would be sacrificed.

Thanks both.. It seems to me that in anyway, the vehicle will have to be sacrificed as it's already marked to be sacrificed..

Any chance the vehicle become illegal target since it's returning back to vehicle in the next turn? Say in the prior turn I activated it using crewing ability not using Siege Modification

@veritablecvn: Note that there's another, underlying reason why that answer is true. As described by Neotrup, Hazoret's Favor's delayed triggered ability does not care whether the permanent is still a creature when the ability triggers.
