Enchanted Creature and Equipment Artifacts?

Asked by Bantha1342 6 years ago

If a creature is equipped with an "Artifact" or "Aura'" and an opponent cast a spell to gain control of that creature, does the Artifact or enchantment equipment change control as well? Thanks for any direction.

No, control of enchanted auras and equipped equipment does not change when control of a creature changes. The auras and equipment will still be attached to that creature though.

Just because a creature leaves your control, that doesn't mean the auras or equipment attached to it do. In the case of equipment, you can pay the equip cost to attach it to any of your other creatures (the fact that it is currently on an opponent's creature is an oddity, but your opponent doesn't control the equipment and thus can't pay its equip cost.) In the case of auras, they're stuck on the creature unless it happens to be something like Felidar Umbra.

It's also important to distinguish that because you still control the aura or equipment, any effect it has that refers to "you" is still you. For instance, if you have a creature enchanted with Soul Link and then your opponent takes control of said creature, you are still the one who gains the life, not the opponent who controls the creature.
